The Mentoring opportunity
The Mentoring partnership will provide Mentees with a valuable opportunity attain advice and guidance from an industry professional on a wide variety of industry, skills and employment related topics such as:
- the soft skills needed in industry
- advice on how to find an internship
- job search skills
- a Career path
The number of agreed Mentoring meetings is flexible, but it is expected a minimum of one hour per month contact time. The Mentors and Mentees can agree to meet more frequently or decide to email, or have phone or Skype contact between meetings. If both parties agree, the Partnership may be ended early if all questions are answered.
The Express Connection process
Step 1: View Mentor profiles
Via the RMIT Mentoring Portal, students view the profiles of available Express mentors, including those suggested or found using the filter function.
Step 2: Request connection
The student will select 'connect' on a mentor’s profile to initiate a Mentoring partnership. Students can send 3 requests & can be connected with 3 Mentors at a time. In the mentoring request, any or topics are listed to cover in the mentoring
connection. Mentors have 10 days to accept or decline the Mentees request.
Step 3: Connect & meet
Once an Express connection is formed, Mentees message the mentor to arrange a time to meet either in person or virtually. The Express connection will be open within the portal for 4 weeks.
It is not recommended that Mentees ask Mentor about internships with their organisation if the Mentor profile does not specify “internships” as an area of support.
At any stage throughout this process, Students can also contact the RMIT Mentoring team to help the mentoring experience.

FAQs for students
Here are some answers to questions you may have about the mentoring program.
Yes Mentees can have 3 Express Mentors at one time but not at the same time.
We encourage student to discuss this with their Mentor in the first instance. Identify the areas of concern regarding the partnership. If unable to resolve a Partnership issue, students can seek advice and guidance from the RMIT Mentoring Team. We will provide our full support to resolve the situation in a positive manner for both parties.
